Divorcing someone that you have many attachments with is a difficult experience in the best of times. For the high conflict couple it becomes a scene of intense drama, with each partner displaying their most primitive attack styles.

For the high conflict couple, divorce is not something that happens after a period of time, because the threat of ending the relationship is an ongoing part of the relationship. Most of the time it is revenge they are each looking for as they take turns using this threat of divorce as one of many weapons during many of their hostile altercations. One spouse may be more overt with the threat, but you can bet that the other has had that same thought on plentiful occasions.
